Monday may 7th we will be performing in the Lutheran Church of Poulsno, WA. Poulsbo is often referred to as "Little Norway". The concert tour which this concert is a part of, is named Drømmen – The Dream, reflecting on the migration from Scandinavia to Iceland over 1200 years ago and to the United States during the 19th century. Performing music from Sapmi, Finland, Norway and Iceland, we wish to honour the national spirit of the Scandinavian countries.
It is Vokal Nord´s great pleasure to come here! We have had an amazing time so far in the beautiful state of Washington, performing at the festive opening of the new premises of the Nordic heritage museum in Seattle. Before that, we enjoyed the magical Reykjavik in Iceland. We are honoured to have Icelandic conductor Hörður Áskelsson as our guest conductor for the entire tour. Áskelsson is the organist and cantor in Reykjavik´s cathedral Hallgrímskirkja since 1982, and a highly experienced choir conductor. His work is duly documented on television, radio and on a number of album releases. He founded the Motet Choir and the Friends of the Arts Society of the church in 1982, and established the Festival of Sacred Arts in 1987. Later he also founded the International Organ Summer concert series and the great chamber choir Schola Cantorum Reykjavícensis.
Vokal Nord is based in Tromsø, Norway, and is known and acclaimed for our unique and characteristic sound based on ethnic music from the northernmost parts of Scandinavia, combined with classical European choir repertoire. We hope you will enjoy the concert!
