We will be performing in the beautiful cathedral Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavik. This cathedral is Iceland's largest, named after poet and psalm composer Hallgrímur Pétursson.
The concert is directed by conductor Hörður Áskelsson, who is the artistic leader in this church. Áskelsson will be joining us for the entire tour of Iceland and the US, where we will perform both Norwegian traditional music and Sami-inspired compositions. The concert is a collaboration with the Schola Cantorum Reykjavík choir. Both choirs will be performing both separately and together.
At the concert Vokal Nord will perform Norwegian and Sami music, both hymns and folk tones, as well as some beautiful pieces by Edvard Grieg, Knut Nystedt and Frode Fjellheim and more. We will also be joining the Icelandic choir for some traditional folk songs from the island.
